I've had 4 Eotech's, I really like them. Here is the last set-up I had on my Bushmaster Commando, I paired a 552 (I think) with the ballistic reticle with an Eotech 4X Magnifier. That AR was a tackdriver!

I used a 512 during a recent Night time AR class. Not a big fan of them due to the distortion you get from the reticle. Out at distant the reticle overshadows the target. I prefer the Aimpoint PRO.
Other then that it performance was average, Most like them because it runs off AA batteries. IMHO nice to have as a back up. ![]() |

I never used any of mine at night, by day I kept the brightness level turned down to 2nd lowest level, I bet you have a very good point.
