Default Happy Birthday to me...

My birthday is next month. It was a nice day so I thought that I would take a drive up into Lebabon County to look at Gun Shops. At the first one, Encks Gun Barn, I found a Colt Woodsman in very good condition. I had wanted one since I was a kid, so $450 and it went home with me. The Gun Barn was an incredible surprise. It looked like a dumpy concrete out building from the outside. Inside, the owner had a large amount of everything. The prices were pretty good too, compared to what is available closer to where I live. On the way home, I passed Musser's Gun Store, so I stopped in. They had an RIA 22 TCM/9mm. After reading the discussions here, I figured why not, so one came home with me.

The gun was set up for the 22 TCM, so, of course I had to order some ammunition online. The dealer had none. When I got home and looked the gun over I noticed that I have to change the extractor, as well as the barrel and spring. The paperwork recommends having a gunsmith do it. Is it reasonable to expect a customer to take the gun to a gunsmith everytime they switch barrels? I called RIA and spoke with a gunsmith who said to try firing it with the same extractor and see if it works. I also found it curious that it had two white dots on the rear sight and a plain black post upfront. I would have expected a dot on the front sight. It also only came with one magazine. I hope my RIA is as good as my fellow COTEPers. I guess the AR won't be a project this year.

I have some white paint, and would gladly paint your front site post. Just send me the gun for a while, and I'll also check out swapping to the 9mm barrel/spring . . . you never know, it might need adjustments!

Thanks for your kind and generous offer. I would hate to miss the pistol while it is away being fondled, err, I mean "adjusted" by you. I don't foresee problems swapping out the barrel and spring. The extractor might be another thing.

Just found out from Colt that my Woodsman was made in 1922.
