Default Custom PIstols

Howdy Pard's

So you want to make a set of Custom Six Guns?
First get your self a big bank account and second get a lot of Aspirin, because you will need both.

The guns that I am going to show you are in next to their final stage of completion. but First...........

Started off with two New Ruger Vaqueros one was 5 inch and the other was a 4 1.5 inch.
No, I could not leave them alone (those that know me , know that I can not have just out of the box guns).
I wanted a set of 3.5 inch Sheriffs models.....not to be had...so we chopped the barrels to 3.5 inch's with a barrel cutter and reset the front sight.
next we opened the re-sight and looked at the internals.
Since we are cowboy competitors, we had to have the gun's ready to race.
We then short-stroked the guns and while we were at it I decided that I did not like the tall thin hammer and called my rep at Ruger and had him send me a set of short "fat" hammers.
after working the internals (short-stroking) and fitting the new hammers we put them together and started on the timing of the cylinder.
Cylinder timed, we took them out and honed the chambers so that the rounds would drop nice and easy. During the assembly, we found that the plunger and shroud was to long, so it ws back to Ruger and had them send me a shorter set.
Test firing was than started with sighting in. Shortly found that shooting out doors with thin black sights does not work well for aging eyes, so we capped the sights with brass clips (that will be changed and gold plated during the re-finishing process).
Next I looked at the grips, and started looking for Sambar Stag grips. I have a friend that makes Sambar Stag grips and he had two sets with no ones nae on them, so they were sent in,
I shot the gun in a few matches and decided that I wanted something a lisle different. I had already fully Fail-Zeroed two sets of six guns for two of my posse and did not want the same thing so I only did the cylinder, cylinder pin, shroud and plunger (easy to clean and need no oil.
That done the guns had to be re-timed and tested.
I now had the guns that I wanted (so I thought)
We were at the Florida State Championship and Jim Downing (The Gun Engraver) was set up in his tent.
And that is where it started all over again............
More money...More Aspirin........
I just had him engrave the back strap...Nice and said I would get back to him....
More money and more Aspirin ..........
A few months later I sent him the Grip portion of the gun and had him fully engrave the back and the trigger guard area, plus I net him the loading gates from both guns so that he could set of my initials (Redstone Rider).
The guns stayed that way until one month ago when they went back for additional engraving.
More money....more Aspirin............
The guns just came back today and this is the point at which we are now at...
I will meet with the Re-Finisher he he will get the guns on Monday to do his magic
More money....More Aspirin.........
I am thinking a a dark blue or almost Black...but he will make the finial decision.
So what you will see is where we are now with the project............

As a friend of mine always says
"IF YOU CAN NOT SHOOT GOOD OR FAST YOU MIGHT AS WELL LOOK GOOD"

More to follow after re-fiishing

The biggest pain in the a** you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every morning.

Good judgment comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgment.
