Interesting....not how I would do it but I can't ever say a way is the way. Run and gun is a tough skill to practice....Hopefully don't ever have to do it.

I've taught what I terrmed off-line principle. Which is similar to the video with some minor differences in tactics. It my case I've developed it for unarmed vs unarmed, unarmed vs armed (knife), unarmed vs armed (gun), as well as armed vs armed.
In my case I teach to do it from the beginning. In other words never stand in front of someone head on. Always cut their body in half. In my case I always stand a half a step away from their strong hand. It gives you a better reactionary distance. You'd be surprised how people don't even realize your're doing it. Good video and good start. A lot can be built upon that, I think.

It is a tough one to practice....up in SC when my kids aren't with me I do all kinds of running and shooting.....then add distance...then add obstacles... then after a few hours I am bushed.

Why I believe ones training should be 3 tiered. 1- Tactics - whatever that may be like armed, unarmed skill set or combination there of, 2 - Strength training, and 3 - Conditioning.

The guys I shoot with work on these kinds of scenarios, by playing "horse" where we alternate setting up the situations. We have props, walls, barrels and a CPR dummy you have to act like you are doing chest compressions on while shooting. Scored by time and accuracy.

Shooting at steel from that distance is strictly verboten at every range I've ever been a member of!

I was thinking that was pretty close, he is moving in the opposite direction from the steel.

I suspect that those of us (me, for sure, as I cannot remember the last time I had a confrontational situation) who do not do serious self defense training may very well carry and indeed practice target shooting, know how to handle our weapons in a range situation but are really not ready for the event where we will indeed need the skills necessary to survive an attack. By far our best defense is situational awareness and avoiding those areas where problems are prevalent. I wish I had been more focused on training over the years. Thank you for the tips in this thread. Dennis

That's one of the many skills brownie taught us in the Threat Focused Pistol Class Last November in Volusia.
Of course, in the class we were shooting paper, not steel.
