Default Still alive for those who want to know.

While I'm not really a, "new" member, I may as well be. I have been remiss in my forum attendance. Shortly after joining, I ended up becoming a lot more involved in one forum. Like some other members here who know me, I live in California. I've mostly focused my time on calguns.net. Since it focuses on California, I've spent most of my time reading and learning about all our current and new proposed bills and laws. Okay, maybe not all about, but trying to keep up on things. Between that and work, I haven't even been that busy on 1911forum until recently. So now I have some time and will try and stay more in touch with this forum as well.
It was because of calguns that I actually became civic minded and active. Two years ago this February, my city council (San Bruno) had a meeting which included proposals to ban hollow point ammo, record sales of ammo, etc. I was watching this meeting at home when one proponent referred to hollow point ammo as having, "enhanced lethality." I'd heard enough. I got off my @55 and rushed to the council meeting. Fortunately it was at the senior center just blocks from my house. I was there in about a minute. I listened and waited. When my opportunity came, I spoke. I explained to the council what HP ammo was designed for and how it differed I agreed with the speaker about it's designed intent, but explained why it was designed that way. Something he failed to do. I also explained what a waste of time recording ammo sales would be. They wanted customer records of any store selling 500 rounds or more in a single purchase. I explained that most people won't buy that quantity of ammo because it's too expensive. Stores sell factory ammo. Most people buy reloaded ammo because it's cheaper. (2 years ago prices = panic prices) Also, anyone buying in bulk will be buying online or from the gunshow because it's cheaper. I said my peace and sat down. I wanted to hear what else was said after me. One woman on the council asked the Police Chief if what I said about HP ammo was true. Was it designed to expand and be more lethal to avoid over penetration, to possibly stop an attacker with less shots fired, less risk than FMJ over penetrating and going through the attacker and penetrating a wall and injuring someone else, (apartments) etc. The Chief, with his head hung low, didn't even look up when he answered, "Yes." 2 years later, no new dumb anti 2A laws in the city of San Bruno. I can't say I did it myself, but I think I helped.
So, I'm going to try to be in here a little more often. Make some new acquaintances, and reconnect with a few old ones.
On a side note, because of these stupid CA laws, I was forced to speed up my timetable and beat a bill signed into law in July by our governor. Because of that, I now have a SS DW Valor to go with my DW PT-C. So there's a positive!
Ryan

Welcome back Ryan.

Yes, our laws are absurd, but hopefully they will get better before getting worse.

Yes, I was stressing about the SSE coming to an end as I had just ordered my LB Monolith in Dec of 2013. Miraculously it was finished a year early or I have no idea how I was going to get it once it was done. I also picked up a S&W M&P Pro just at years end on a whim.

We still need to get together and shoot.

The biggest pain in the a** you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every morning.

Good judgment comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgment.
