Question Is this normal?

Shot the Escort for the first time today. 100rds total with 50 being Remington 230gr ball and 50 PPU 230gr ball.

My question is with the PPU ammo. I noticed that I had "shavings" of brass or plating from the bullet in the pistol after being fired. See crappy pics below, the gold specs are the shavings. I inspected the brass and did not see anything out of the ordinary. No dents, no scrapes, no tears, no bulges, ect...they looked normal.

I thought it was the extractor causing it but, I see no signs of damage on the casings.

Never seen this before although I don't shoot a lot of PPU ammo. So, is this normal or should I look into something?

sure it's metal? Looks like it may be unburned powder...short barrels are notorious for that

I Concur. Seen it before. I think it's unburned powder too.
No worries.

scrape a bunch of it in a pile and set a match to it. Make sure your girl is out shopping first, or you'll never get your testicles out of her purse

depends on what they used. Red Dot and Blue Dot and Green Dot are called that for a reason. Win 231 is a steel blue color. As I said, put a match to a little bit of it. If you get smoke, it's unburned powder. If it was collecting on your feed ramp, or the gap between your ramp and barrel, or the extractor, then I would say you had a problem But it's pretty much strewn everywhere.
Short barrels leave unburned powder...it's that simple. When ammo companies work up a load, they use a barrel fixture in the 5-6" range. Less bullet time in the barrel=less time for a clean burn. It's powder
