A little bit about me. I've been a dedicated gun scholar for the past 5 years, and a college professor for over 12 yrs. Naturally I saw the need to combine both interest so I recently started a side biz as a pistol instructor focused on instinctive/reactive point shooting.

I enjoy discussing everything firearms and look forward to learn more about the mighty fine 1911 platform. I don't own a 1911 but they are such an iconic firearm that helped shape the freedoms we currently enjoy, and needless to say some are just a work of art, that I look forward to the day I own one.

I need to do research as I want my first to be an entry level one, one I can tinker with without fearing screwing (screwing up?) a $2,500+ gun in the process.

Thank you and look forward to interacting and learning from all of you.

Happy New Year.

Pedro (pitor)
Welcome, !

I enjoyed meeting you, along with several other fine folks that hang their hats here, in Volusia last November.

As far as getting a "budget" 1911 to start with; I recommend against that, and suggest getting a Colt (best bang for the buck in their price range). As long as you're swapping out/fitting parts (Rule #1 of working on 1911's; always "work" on the cheapest part); you won't damage the pistol itself beyond resurrection. Otherwise, regardless of how much you spend on quality parts; it'll always just be a cheap pistol. Start with a good quality one to begin with.

I'd be pleased to have you look over my small collection of 1911's, and loan you one to shoot until you decide what you'd like to purchase.

I have them in three, 3 1/2, four, 4 1/4, and five inch sizes; either lightweight, or all steel. (Can't loan you a guitar though; I have less of them than I do 1911's.)

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Hello ,
Welcome. Nice to meet you. You will find that a 1911 is like a pair of rabbits. Almost behind your back they will follow you home, way beyond reason growing your collection. Prayers that 2015 will find you and your wife in good health and happy. Enjoy the action here. All the best. Dennis

My Dobermans and I welcome you and your Dane

Best wishes to you and your wife. I just went through a cancerous thyroid removal with mine last week. Not nice at all!

I am insensitive...outside of COTEP. Had no idea your wife had health problems. You'll find we tend to pray for members and their families. Hope the Good Lord sees her through healthy and happy
